Making the most of your investment in art

Making the most of your investment in art

I remember my first purchase of a piece of art that wasn't a 'millions of other people own this' print - the mixed feelings of excitement and trepidation as I realised how much I wanted it, and then that I was actually going to take the leap and buy it.

I remember justifying the investment {which was considerable for me} to myself, giving myself time to think about it and then panicking that I'd miss out on it if I dithered too long.

And then finally saying yes and feeling both elated and like I'd just done something quite daring. :)

It can be a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, buying art!That was well over a decade ago, and I still love that painting and don't regret my purchase for a second. In fact if I turn my head to the left right now as I write to you, I get to enjoy it all over again.

These days, while I still give an art purchase a lot of consideration, I know when a painting is 'meant for me', and take great pleasure in adding it to my collection.

Whether you've never bought an original piece of art before or are a long time collector, once you get it home it'll need just the right place to live.

{Which is not to say it can never be moved! I rotate my paintings from time to time to freshen up the energy - it always helps me see new things in them.}

One of my collectors told me that she put a lot of thought into where she was going to hang my painting, and it ended up impacting her daily life in several lovely ways.

"It's is in the perfect spot on the landing just facing my bedroom door, so it's the first thing I see when I get up in the morning. It's also facing my studio door for a bit of inspiration when I'm working. It's strategically hung below a skylight, which is very atmospheric and the perfect soundtrack when the rain is battering down!"

If you're thinking of buying a painting, why not take a stroll around your home and think about where it could hang that would give you that extra uplift in your day every time you saw it.

Catching a glimpse as you walk past, or hanging it where visitors will always get to enjoy it too, and re-experiencing all those lovely feelings that made you fall in love with it in the first place, is a great way to make the most of that investment.
